With the continued release of inflation and other market data, combined with fairly unambiguous statements from Chair Powell and other members of the Fed, market sentiments have shifted with regards to when we may see the first much-anticipated cuts to interest rates. Until now, experts predicted three cuts this year to rates, beginning as early as June. Powell has made it clear that will probably not be the case. Speculation is all over the map on whether we'll see one cut, two cuts, no cuts in 2024; even the possibility of a rate hike is being mentioned again. The culprit? This stubbornly resilient inflation we're all experiencing. The Fed has made it clear they have no intention of easing monetary policy until the data shows inflation is moving more substantially in the right direction. 

The good news for buyers in the Charlotte market, though, cannot be understated. With the appreciation numbers we're seeing in our area (already 6% though the first quarter of 2024), buying now at these interest rates is still the smart move, rather than sitting out the market a couple years and paying 10%+ more for the same house. Real estate, and the greater economy in our city, is strong and we would do well to think of our homes as an asset with great appreciation potential. Let the greater economy do its thing while sleeping soundly in your home that's worth more today than yesterday.
